The Weedsport boys basketball team rallied in a back-and-forth battle in a 54-52 over Pulaski on Wednesday.
Trailing, 26-22 at the half, the Warriors put in a tough second half effort, outscoring Pulaski, 20-10 in the third quarter.
The winning basket came from Adam Carey with a layup with two seconds left, giving him four points in the game.
“It was a good team effort,” Warriors coach Matt Lipiska said. “They played an excellent second half.”
Sean Ashby led Weedsport, scoring 18 points and nine rebounds, Craig Mietz contributed 14 points, five rebounds and two assists and Justin Rose added 14 points and eight rebounds.
The Warriors (1-0) try to continue their success at Port Byron Wednesday.
Port Byron 72, Tyburn Academy 40
Brad Anderson and Jake Ross both led the Panthers. scoring 12 points each while DJ Helmer added 11 points.
“It was a good win for us,” Panthers coach Chris Ford said. “It was a hard fought battle with a lot of defensive effort.”
Pacing the Crusaders were Spencer Blackman with 18 points and Brandon Broader tallied 10 points.
The Panthers (1-0) play in Cato-Meridian Friday.
Cato-Meridian 64, Syracuse Academy of Science 48
A.J. Rothenburg led the Blue Devils posting 29 points, while Dillon Caswell added 10.
Cato-Meridian (2-0) hosts Port Byron Friday.
BOYS HOCKEY
Fayetteville-Manlius 5, Auburn 2
Reggie Townsend scored the first goal for the Maroons off an assist from Brandyn Morgan.
The second goal for Auburn was a powerplay goal scored by Matt Festa and assisted by Townsend and Chris Murdoch.
Steve Komanecky collected 33 saves in the cage for the Maroons.
Skaneateles 12, Central Square 1
Packy Jones led the Lakers scoring three goals, while Dylan VanHoltz recorded two goals, Josh Rathgeb added one goal and three assists, Patrick Emmer tallied one goal and two assists, Kyle Christine scored a goal and an assist, Brendan Major, Drake Hill.
Seth Weiss and Noah Allyn each posted one goal, Lex Johnson collected two assists and Dan Tarolli, Jacob Bird and Sean Cooney had one assist apiece.
In the net for Skaneateles were Trevor Diamond, who earned two saves while Scott Bruening and Josh Lotkowictz each had one.
WRESTLING
Union Springs 39, Odessa-Montour 30
The Wolves were led by Matt Pinckney, in the 145-pound weight class, who won by pin in 3:19.
Also winning for Union Springs was Rich Thurston (140) in a 8-4 decision.
Winning by forfeit for the Wolves were Peter Klock (119), Harold Dymock (125), Mike McDeid (130), Andy Klock (135) and Tom Weir (215).
Union Springs (1-0) travels to the Newark Valley tournament Saturday.
Port Byron 39, Tully 24
In the 119-pound weight class, Mitch Janes led the Panthers with a pin in 3:37.
Caleb Green (125) won by pin in 1:24, Christian Cobb (140) also won by pin in 3:49, Justin Quimby (189) won by pin in 3:23, Eric Urwin (135) won by a 7-5 decision, Robert Johnson (152) won by an 8-6 overtime decision and Noah Adler (215) won in an 11-7 decision.
Tyler Wellington (112) won by forfeit for Port Byron.
The Panthers (1-0) host LaFayette Tuesday.

In the 160-pound weight class, Kyle Sears won by a pin in 3:59 to lead the Lakers, Jimmy Carro (189) also won by pin in 2:43 and also winning by pin for Skaneateles was Chris Wise (171) in 3:21.
Also winning for Skaneateles were Jacob Carvalho (145) who won by a 6-3 decision, Jacob Valentino (135) won by a disqualification and Ryan Dick (119) and Stephen Hartnett (125) both won by forfeit.
The Lakers (1-0) wrestle at the Oneida Duals Saturday.
