One of two women accused of working as a prostitute in Auburn has also been charged with falsely reporting a robbery and stealing more than $3,000 from the night deposit bag of a local convenience store, police said.
According to the Auburn Police Department, two women allegedly agreed with undercover officers to exchange sexual intercourse for money. The arrest reports state that the alleged exchanges and arrests took place at 37 William St., the address of the Auburn Days Inn.

Police on Tuesday charged Ashley D. Byrne, 22, of 207 Perrine Ave., Auburn; and Barbara Lynn Fuller, 31, of 159 Pinnacle Hill Road, Fulton, with

prostitution, a misdemeanor.

Officials also charged Byrne and Fuller with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, also a misdemeanor. Auburn police said the women allegedly possessed prescription drugs they were not authorized to carry.

APD Lt. Shawn Butler said Wednesday that investigators believe Byrne and Fuller are part of a local ring of prostitutes. Butler said the ring is believed to consist of at least four people.

The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests are pending, according to the APD. The Cayuga County Sheriff's Office as well as the New York State Parole and Cayuga County Probation departments, are participating in the investigation.

Police say Byrne is also connected with an unrelated, unsolved robbery case from July 6. According to investigators, Byrne reported at the time that she was robbed of the nightly deposit from a convenience store while walking the money to the bank.

However, Butler said that police have uncovered evidence that Ashley made up the story and that she and her husband, Andrew G. Byrne, of 207 Perrine Ave., Auburn, kept more than $3,000 that was reported stolen. Andrew Byrne, 25, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant, according to the APD.

Both Andrew and Ashley Byrne are charged with third-degree grand larceny, a felony. Andrew is also charged with parole violation, and Ashley is charged with third-degree falsely reporting an incident.

According to the APD, Andrew Byrne is currently on parole, and Ashley Byrne is on probation.

Investigators ask anyone with information about either case to call the APD Detective Bureau at 255-4705.
