SYRACUSE — Authorities are charging a day care operator with failing to report abuse against a toddler who was later beaten to death by the mother’s 15-year-old boyfriend.
Authorities say as a state-licensed day care owner, Diane Shakir was required by law to report the abuse of 20-month-old Imani Jennings.
Shakir has run the All-Star Day Care out of her home since 1997.
Authorities say her license has been revoked.
If convicted, she faces up to one year in jail. Authorities say she does not yet have an attorney.
Anthony Weakfall Jr. is being charged with murder in Jennings' death. The mother, Cherron Patterson, faces felony assault and child endangerment charges.
