Two teenagers accused of stealing and crashing a Tubman Street resident's 2000 Oldsmobile Alero on Nov. 10 have been connected to at least three other burglaries, detectives with the Auburn Police Department said on Tuesday.
Police have accused Jerome Graves Jr., 17, of 16 Parker St., Auburn and Robert Jermaine Johnson Jr., 17, of 7 Arlington Ave., Auburn, of burglarizing four Auburn homes while the residents were inside.
In three of those incidents, the residents were asleep and in a fourth, a resident woke up and believed they heard another family member walking around downstairs, police said.
None of the victims personally encountered the burglars.
The two teens were connected to the burglaries after officers executed three search warrants on their homes and discovered items that had been reported stolen, police said. The items have since been returned to their owners.
Police said Graves and Johnson have both been charged with four counts of second-degree burglary and two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, both felonies. The two teenagers also face misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief, petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.
Both teenagers are still being held in the Cayuga County Jail and their cases have been transferred to Cayuga County Court. Bail for Johnson has been set at $5,000 cash and $10,000 bond, while Graves' bail was set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.
