The Cato-Meridian boys basketball team started the season on the right foot as they defeated Tyburn Academy, 70-26 in Monday's season opener.

The Blue Devils jumped in to take a quick 24-2 lead at the end of the first quarter, forcing the upstart Crusaders offense to play catch up.
By the half, Cato-Meridian had the lead, 37-13, but their play wasn't as intense as their coach would have liked.
“We came out well, but we stopped pressing and went through the motions after that,” Blue Devils coach Ryan Brunelle said.
Ben Kline led the Blue Devils scoring 12 points and manipulating the rebounds.
“(Kline) played a great game,” Brunelle said. “He played hard at the post and rebounded really well for us tonight.”
Also playing well for the Cato-Meridian offense was Cody Humberstone, who tallied 10 points.
Andrew Cunningham paced Tyburn, contributing 12 points, Cody Cottrell added eight points, Matt Covich posted three points and Spencer Blackman earned two points.
“They were a very hardworking team,” Brunelle said. “Tyburn is a well-coached team -- they definitely worked hard.”
Leading the Blue Devils defense was Joe Soccio and Preston Dennison.
The Blue Devils (1-0) travel to Syracuse Academy of Science Wednesday.
SAS will be a bit of a revenge game for the Blue Devils, after they defeated Cato-Meridian at home last season.
The seasoned Syracuse team defeated Weedsport, Port Byron and Cato-Meridian in succession last season.
The Blue Devils, who are returning their entire roster from last season, are sure to remember the loss from 2007.
Tyburn plays next at Port Byron on Wednesday.
