This week's question: What message would you like to send to the nearly 50 percent of voters who chose your opponent this year?
Being re-elected as your congressman is the honor of a lifetime. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to continue my fight for farmers, teachers, small business owners #- everyone in the 24th Congressional District. I assure you I will continue to focus on issues like the economy and health care, issues important to our families and the future of Cayuga County.
In the past two years, I made Cayuga County a top priority, opening an office in Auburn and focusing on issues that are important to the region. I made tax cuts and helping new businesses like Saratoga Cheese a priority. I fought for local dairy farmers and to protect Social Security.
Over the next two years, I will continue to help local families keep more of their money and allow small businesses to succeed. In the same way I hosted an agricultural forum in Auburn last year before the Farm Bill, I hosted a transportation roundtable this year to hear about local priorities before consideration of the Federal Highway Bill.
My position on the Transportation Committee will help me secure critical funding to improve roads, make our bridges safer and get our railroads running efficiently.
I will continue to work with Cayuga Community College, businesses, labor and local communities to grow our alternative energy economy, creating jobs and lowering energy costs. Auburn and Cayuga County are already on the frontlines of alternative energy generation and we must keep moving forward. We are perfectly poised to create a “green” economy with good-paying “green” jobs.
Most importantly, I want to thank everyone who voted in this election, regardless of who you voted for. Our democracy is the strongest in the world because we are free to participate in our government. Serving as your Congressman is not a job I take lightly.
I consider it to be the greatest honor. I will continue to work as hard as I possibly can to make you as proud of the job I do for you as we are of our remarkable community, our home.
