I am writing to stand up for Murray Lynch.
Now I'll admit; it really gets my ire up when I read a letter in The Citizen pushing some religiously-inspired bigotry, or prejudice, or ancient prohibitions from the Bronze age that is quaint in its recitation, but wholly contradictory to what I remember as the “Christian ethic” as personified by Jesus, which I remember from my Catholic upbringing.
However, having read Mr. Lynch's letters for the past several years, I'm here to say that Murray just “gets it”.
In a town where more often than not, the letter-writing representatives of the outspoken religious community have used the letters section to spread hatred against “witches,” gays, innocent Halloween celebrations, and to politic against the better interest of our nation, Murray's letters truly do embody the pure ethic of all the best that a “Christian” should be.
Yes, he can be somewhat incessantly hectoring. And often his tirades are one-sided political rants - which in the spirit of full disclosure, I agree with 99 percent of the time as well.
But the rest of what he advocates - mercy; charity: accountability; responsibility; an end to war; a sincere embrace of what I remember as “Christian ethics” before the Religious Right twisted them into near unrecognizable parodies - who really has a problem with this? Maybe they'd better clean out their own closets before criticizing Murray Lynch.
The principles by which Murray lives and preaches are the same as an atheist, by the way. Though we gain our inspiration by different sources, I find Murray to be a kindred soul, albeit, one of a different faith.
I could do without the silly “quizzes”, Murray - but I, for one, would not wish to hear your sage voice silenced!

actully Karl I am surprised you are sticking up for Murray, normally you slam him on the posts.
no matter, Murray has the right, as anyone else, to voice his opinions.
at times, I wonder how an avid Christian can Bush slam so much..
but I then think the separation of Church and State...
and the fact we are all human! "

As for the Bush bashing I stayed out of that because on National levels you are going to get idiots elected to the office of the presidency no matter what party you belong in. as for Obama, well I am praying to God that he is able to get this economy going again, without giving away trillions and trillions or our tax dollars in the form of buy outs.
If they want to save something save social security, pull the trrops not only out of Iraq but Europe, heck that war has been over since 1945, and pull them out of japan, and save the auto industry, then pull them out GitMo, and Korea and really become an isolationist nation. maybe this is what you and your friend murry would like.
Just a thought "
