Our writers group met on Tuesday night at Stella Maris. Dianne read us her essay about November - how bleak, gray, dark, and dreary it can be. We discussed November for awhile as well as discussing everyone's writings.
When we got back to my house on Franklin Street in Sennett, the women who carpool with me got back into their cars and headed out our lower driveway. I was at out kitchen sink when I noticed the lights of Mary Lou's small Corolla on its side in the ditch. I yelled for my husband to call 911 and I ran outside to help her.
Fortunately, she was fine, although trapped. Her door was against the side of the ditch and her car was at a steep angle.
This is when November took on a new brightness.
Immediately, cars, SUV's, trucks, actually every vehicle that drove by, stopped to see if we needed any help.
And within two minutes the Sennett Fire Department showed up to help out. Bob Enge Jr. helped Mary Lou to get out the other door, and eventually Don Phetteplace took her information to document how she was feeling. Everyone was so incredibly kind. They left the comfort of their homes to help out someone in need. It was no longer a dark and dreary night.
Fire trucks, Rural Metro, Cayuga County Sheriff's, Auburn City Police, all showed up and everyone worked in cooperation to make sure that MaryLou was fine. AAA was called and before long, her car was pulled up out of its precarious position. This November night was a good reminder of how fortunate we are to have such kind people in our town.
Thank you to everyone and I wish for you all - a blessed holiday season.
