ALBANY -- Motorists planning to use the Thruway system during their Thanksgiving holiday travels are being advised to leave extra time to reach their destinations because of potentially crowded highways.
Thruway Authority officials say the Wednesday before and the Sunday following Thanksgiving are typically two of the busiest days on the system. The heaviest travel periods on those two days usually occur between noon and 8 p.m.
The Thruway is halting construction projects during the holiday period, with some work being stopped Tuesday or Wednesday and resuming on Monday.
Officials say state police Troop T, which patrols the Thruway system, will be out in force during the Thanksgiving holiday period.
