Stop speeders before someone gets hurt

It is amazing how the city of Auburn laments on reduced revenues and the feeble attempt with the new parking meters downtown was only a tiny “fix” to the problem.
Here's my suggestion: why don't we set up a regular speed trap on Prospect Street, between Wal-Mart and the college?

So many people drive that street like it's the Indy 500, and frequently, the average speed of most cars and trucks is at least 40 mph or better.

That would increase city coffers with the hefty speeding fines.

Another tip regarding the Prospect Street/Bowen Street intersection is to set a camera up aimed at the stop sign.

If I had a nickel for every time I've seen someone blithely roll through that intersection (just because there weren't any cars coming), or just run it flat out, not even attempting to stop, I could retire to Hawaii by now.

The city could pay for that camera within one day!

With winter coming in earnest, most people think that if they slow down that it's good enough. People, (and you all know who you are) it is a stop sign! Not a “roll through carefully avoiding other cars”-sign.

There will be accidents with the snowy roads, in addition to the pedestrians that are sometimes walking along this street with no sidewalks. These drivers are creating a dangerous situation.

Their lack of respect for these stop signs worries me simply because it is just plain against the law! Maybe if the city took these steps, they could solve several problems at once. First, they'd be making this street safer for pedestrians, other drivers and the street's residents.

They could somewhat alleviate their financial woes, and they'd be sending a powerful message to all who drive on this street that their disregard for the law and safety will no longer be tolerated.

Hit 'em where it hurts ... right in their wallets!

" we have many intersections similar.
here they have installed camera's at the busiet locals.

another trick was to park and un-manned police vehicle nearby..as dats go by just when you think its un-manned, HE is in it! "

" That's right. Enforce them speeding laws where the rich people live. "

" They need to come to VanAnden St too. People try to see how fast they can go from one stop sign to the next. They are under the impression that this is a race strip. You might as well take the stops signs right down~ no one stops. Plus, there are people parked all over the place (despite the alternate parking law) making it more difficult to see if some child is going to walk out into the street. I hope a child never gets hit by the crazy speeders but it is bound to happen. This street is very dangerous. "
