New York state could cut its budget of mowing lawns along the state Thruway and other state highways. They could save a lot of money on wages and lawnmower maintenance and trucking these lawnmowers from place to place

If I was Skaneateles, I'd call Paterson and get the state police and not allow that convoy. That's a joke -- let's not get too far out of hand, truckers.

I saw on the news and have been watching the problem about the pirates in Somalia. Here's a smart idea, maybe: Bomb the heck out of that place!

Why doesn't someone get out on South Street and have these truck drivers slowed down, especially early in the morning. Auburn Police don't do anything about them.

" I so have to share this:
I should be at my comp.doctors office, but a sick grandson not able to attend daycare today takes priority.

he was playing with my cell phone, but mean gramma took it away and gave him the house phone to play with. Since its off, he cant dial China.
he pushed buttons non-stop this morning..

at snack time he left the phone on the floor, TLC from gram and off to dreamland..
while rocking him, I was thinking of all the past posts and thinking of my mom and how I miss her so much during the holidays
(a scene out of You've Got Mail, when Meg talks about missing her mom repeats in my head)

I pick up the phone to put it back and behold, my grandson had pushed 8444444444444...
ironically, 844 is my moms birthdate
August 1944, and she always played 844 for her daily pick 3 lottery!

believe or not to believe,
'thanks mom for the reassurance, message recieved'!! "

I think being the oldest of 7, I have the MOM nature..Ok for me to help anyone and everyone but NEVER to ask unless I am beyond desperate..
trust me the words 'beyond desperate' are still hard to swallow.

in my readings, I believe its a character of the 'first born'...
for my first born is just like me in that nature!
the middle child just says 'hey mom' with his hand held out!
the youngest just bats her eyes with that puppy look!

I have always been the 'take care of/in charge of' person since I was little, the burden grew when my mom died at 43 in 1988.

when I mentioned I would like to be the crappy guy who gets to run off, run away from the responsibilities of life, I have that urge to JUST ONCE do it!
But the core of me wont let my right foot out the door!

Anyway, no, I would not have offered to pay for cm's relay. For a simple reason--I do not believe she would accept it; her Pride would definitely preclude that. She would NEVER accept Charity from a registered Liberal!
And judging from her subsequent posts, it looks like I was right.

This is actually my second post that I just erased here and wrote--my first draft went into other reasons why I wouldn't have offered cm the money, and pointed out more of the irony and hypocrisy around the situation, but it doesn't need to be said.

"morals", kind of you to ask your god to "bless" me, but really--it's a waste of your time--I've already been "blessed" far beyond anything your god could offer me. "

That's just dumb, wasteful and not environmentally sensible. "

my sis --a good one--that I am super close to, wanted to send her childcare money, but I told her NO..she paid my electric bill 2 months ago, that was more than enough..

please, for me..help someone there that really needs HEAT right now..I am sure if you listen closely in the grocery line you will find a person in dire need.
that would make me happy!

I agree Nature: divorce is tough, and worse with young kids. sometimes we all let the worst of our anger get the better side of us..
BUT 'someone has to step up to the plate'...even if it burns the core of your soul..

Just saw Todays news: horrible!
wife tries to kill hubby by fire and kills her 2 kids instead, the hubby shooting his wife in the church, HERE an angry EX killed his wife so she wouldnt show up at court, another mothers body was just found..

too bad its not that easy to accept, we just dont belong together and split-up.

along with so many more suicides over money issues..I so understand things are tough, BUT to take your life over losing your home/car/job? Dont they think about their kids? their families? their friends?
dont they see the value of THEM and not the materialistic losses?? "

Your husband walked out on you, leaving you in a mess, and you are doing your best to hold things together, while continuing to care for your family. You are exactly the kind of person who DESERVES help in tough times, but also the kind who tends to fall through the cracks. You'd be giving me a chance to help someone else not have to face what I did when I was a productive member of society fallen on hard times -- and the system was not there for me. Let us be there for you in this small way.

I thought you knew -- I get up every day at 4 AM and am in bed my 7:30 or 8 PM -- though I did stay up to see the end of the Giants game 2 weeks ago -- almost to midnight, and it almost killed me. karl again... wrote on Nov 22, 2008 6:30 PM:

" David, an astute observation.
But I am, and will remain, unapologetically, strictly partisan.
NOT so much "pro" any party or anything--I truly think they're ALL F.O.S.--but I am vehemently, hatefully anti-Republican, and ESPECIALLY anti-Conservative, and my hottest fire I reserve for the NeoCon crowd.
I seriously, passionately believe that they are, in varying degrees, criminals-st-heart. Liars, cheaters, thieves, and most of all, self-centered. "Ends-justifies-the-means"-type of people. I actually sincerely believe in the outlawing of the NeoCon party (?) as the Nazi's were banned after WWII. Yes--seriously.

Of course, that wouldn't really change anything--it would be mostly symbolic, and they would just migrate into the Republican party anyway. What I'm really talking about is those "types" of people. The kind who reject Science, embrace bigotry, think that strength comes at the end of a gun, The ones impervious to reason, who thrive on a closed mind, think that constructive talking and diplomacy is for "wimps", and believe in that "Christian nation" nonsense.

I sincerely believe that there is a true, real genetic difference. Like Cro Magnon man vs Australopithecus.
Of course, in my heart-of-hearts, I know it couldn't be done. But one can dream?

David, let me ask you--do you find similar ire with the all-encompassing, derogatory appellation of "Liberal" as used by many on this site as well? AT least let me know that we're on a level field here?

As far as economics goes, I won't even to pretend to understand it all, but here's what I know--in my lifetime, both of the hardest, darkest periods I remember both came after Republican Presidents, and administrations-and Conservative political persuasions. Both Reagan and Bush, of course. Both gave us massive, economy-wrecking recessions. (And yes--deregulation was a BIG part of it. In my eyes, "deregulation" is just Right-wing code-speak for "Go ahead; I'm not watching; do what you want, and cut me a little off the top"!) Both embraced war, arms proliferation, phony-tough hyper-patriotism and allowed Religious intrusion in government, Quite frankly, I've had it up to here with it, and it's my time to vent!
The bottom line is, the people who I vent against on this site were telling me just until recently that the economy was strong, and most of them still stand behind the disaster that was George Bush and his corrupt, mendacious cabal, which makes me question either their sanity or their intelligence. But of course, I know it's because they're just too stubborn to admit they were wrong. Well, I'm going to needle them then!

Sorry if it rankles ya. "

Karl, this one is directed at you mainly because of your comments earlier in the week but your latest. You say alot of stuff that makes sense, but there are also times that make me wonder. I agree with your comments on buying something more than you can afford, and that you resent bailing the irresponsible persons out. Then you make a comment about the Republican free market. The current state of affairs has very little to do with the republicans alone. This is a situation that has everything to do with dishonest lenders, as well as, customers lying on mortgage applications coupled with high fuel prices. It is pretty simple. Maybe you should take an economics class. You may blame deregulation----I say that no matter who is watching, there is always someone that will find a way to cheat. "

Lets start a parade in skaneateles at the same time as this 'convoy' is coming through...hold them up for a few hours or so.

and from now on...

if you see a garbage truck behind you, slow down to 10 miles an hour and keep driving in front of them AS LONG AS YOU CAN.

also, if you are walking down the street and see a truck coming by, get to the crosswalk and walk right out in front of them, they HAVE TO SLOW DOWN AND STOP FOR YOU. people should just be set up along the road waiting for a truck, and make each truck stop at EVERY CROSSWALK. lets do this in auburn too! " At this point, if we don't assist the automakers, you will see many out of work. However, lets remember who has bankrupted the automakers---UNIONS. Why should a janitor make $75k yr? Also, Pelosi, and many other Dems are heavily supported by the unions. No wonder they are pushing for a package. Not that I don't think we should not act at this point. I know someone who manages a healthcare facility. The CSEA is trying to get in. They are lying to the staff, and preying on the ones who are not able to think for themselves. This healthcare facility has a great track record of low turnover, many months without a missed workday due to injury, and above average wages. Yet the union is convincing the staff that the owners are out to screw them. The ownership gives and gives now-----what happens when they can give no more? The union steps in, and takes all it can, in turn, ruining the infrastructure of the organization. The unions do not care----they can move on to another business. "

Wondering how we were going to pay for another stimulus package, then it hit me, bailout the big three, raise their taxes (to spread the wealth), and the stimulus package is funded. Pretty smart them Dems. "

Not that Bush ever was. "

" Looking at the closing bell today.......the market bounced back a little. Why is it--the media makes a big deal if the market drops 5%, but nothing is said about a 5% increase? The market is all about how someone feels on a particular day. Nothing more than that. Do yourselves a favor---look long term, don't panic. Spend your hard earned dollars locally to keep our tax base strong. Call the chamber of commerce, and get a list of local members, and shop with them. They are the ones keeping your taxes down. Walmart hasn't paid a dime in taxes, other than sales tax, but they will get that back ten fold over the life of their stay in Cayuga County. Give to those that are less fortunate. Be thankful for what you have, and help those who try to help themselves. It will come back ten fold to you. Anyway, I guess my point is---no matter how bad it gets, it can always get worse for you or someone else. Have a nice night--and no I am not drinking, just a little thankful for what I have after seeing alot of people today with SERIOUS problems. "

I do shop during the year, and usually have a closet full by now.
this year money is less, but I will still shop!

I am usually working by 6 am black friday, I never hit the sales..plus I seem to find better deals after the 'big' weekend.

I used to ship alot too-300.00-every year. Now I gift card, so much easier.
plus saves on postage!

I am worse than a kid on X-mas, except I GIVE ALOT of presents! "

" I didnt miss the point - just was sharing some web sites to aid those into it. We dont do xmas here although we do give the dog his "big" toy that day. We feel that the idea of giving should be done whenever and often thruout the year - as a celebration of life. Xmas is way too commercial and actually quite irritating in pushing that its all about retail satisfaction. When I was a kid it was about a beautiful tree, the homemade dinner, the family and maybe a doll and an outfit. Total cost? priceless. "

" I try to have all my holiday gifts purchased BEFORE Thanksgiving, especially since I have to ship almost all of them. I am well on track to make that goal.

I never, ever shop on Black Friday. Well, you know me -- I shop at 24-hour places so I can go at 5 AM, I hate crowds so much. I do most of my shopping via catalogs or online.

This year I've found a new trick -- I find items I like in a catalog, then look on eBay. About 2 out of 3 I can find new and in the box for way less, and with only shipping, not shipping, handling and tax.

And I am usually helping some other person trying to make money to pay bills and buy gifts themselves! "

" Black Friday Shopping Tip:
You don't need any of it: Let's be honest. Before you looked at the store flier to see the great price on some gadget, you had no intention of buying that gadget. In other words, you really don't need it, but it is being advertised at such a terrific price, you feel compelled to purchase it. Buying for the sake of buying is never a good deal, no matter what the price. If you didn't need it before Black Friday, chances are you don't need it at all. "

my grand prize is a 25.00 gift card and a chance to have my name drawn for a dinner with the VP...the object is giving him 'peon' knowledge.

for sure if they did my pick my name-he would say 'pick another', since I have already thru the past 4 yrs he's been in charge voiced my opinions, both good and bad.

he doesnt like the bad because I tell 'up the line' within the first 3 weeks of openings..he dislikes the facts that I am right, and only realizes the errors within the last 2 weeks towards closings!
which is too late for salvaging sales!

'peons' with 14 yrs of experience at times do know better..
I am the last person he would want to have dinner with!

I will enjoy my gift card! "

I mean, c'mon. Let's just be honest, ok? Cheney is a criminal---a ruthless, immoral death-profiteer, a war criminal, a liar, a manipulator, and if there's ANY justice in this world or the next (if you believe in that) he'll be brought to account for his crimes.

Righty-o Karl. We tend to base our opinions on the facts of the matter, not how we feel about it. With most liberals like you, the emotion is far more important and relevant than the actual facts.
So Karl, Cheney is some sort of criminal...with the way the libs have been after him for the past 8 years: If he actually has done something illegal,
don't you think Waxman or others would have either found out by now or brought him up on charges? Or is this just another one of the many conspricy theories brought about by Bush?
Really Karl, save your selective outrage, its boring.

But yes, let's bomb all those poor innocent people; women and children included. After all, if they had any sense of courage, justice, and righteousness, they would just throw their malnourished bodies against the AK47's and RPG's of the drug lords (who defeated the United States, I remind you!) until the drug lords just decided to give up their power and money, right?
