Cayuga County's unemployment rate reached its highest October level since 1995, the state Department of Labor reported Thursday.
The county's 5.6 percent unemployment last month was up from 3.8 percent in October 2007, but down slight from 5.7 percent in September of this year. The rates are not adjusted to reflect normal seasonal fluctuations.

The county's numbers are similar to the statewide pattern. Across New York, the unemployment rate was 5.5 percent, up from 4.4 percent a year earlier and down from 5.6 percent in September.

The county's October jobless rate had not been higher since 1995, when it reached 5.8 percent.
