HIT: To the Pet Food Pantry fundraiser organized last weekend by the Animal Resource Center.
Especially in today's economy, it's not easy for some people to afford food for their pets, and the pantry does a great job filling the void. But to do its job, the pantry needs help from the community.
Kudos to the resource center on putting together a program that raised not only some money, but also awareness.
MISS: To the firing of Greg Robinson as head coach of the Syracuse University football team.
Plenty of Orange fans thought this move should have been made at the conclusion of last season, but the university gave the highly paid Robinson another chance to turn things around this year. Unfortunately, it's been more of the same - lots of losing and little to be hopeful about.
Robinson certainly seems like a good person. He's always been optimistic and professional, despite the results on the field. Ultimately, though, he's been given plenty of opportunity to succeed, and he just couldn't.
This is a proud program that has fallen incredibly in the past four years. It's imperative that the school doesn't strike out again, like it did with the hiring of Robinson to replace Paul Pasqualoni, the last coach to have a winning season for the Orange.
MISS: To the Cayuga County Democrat Committee's failure to file campaign finance disclosure forms for most of this year.
The tardiness has resulted in a $500 judgment secured by the state Board of Elections against the committee related to a missed July filing. The committee's leader is downplaying the issue, saying the committee didn't have much financial activity to report and that the committee treasurer simply was too busy.
We can understand, perhaps, how one can miss campaign finance filing deadlines by a few days every once in a while. But a major party committee that skips filing for the better part of a year is willfully violating the election law.
