The lake effect snow machine will continue to pound all parts of Cayuga County tonight into Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service said.
The agency issued a lake effect snow warning for the northern half of the county through noon Wednesday. It also issued a lake effect snow advisory for southern Cayuga County through the same time.
In issuing the warning for the northern half, the agency said the lake effect bands could especially impact the Fair Haven and Cato areas. Additional accumulations overnight could range from 5 to 8 inches of snow, with as much as 18 inches total from the storm.
In the southern half of the county, the snowfall ranges are predicted from 2 to 5 inches, with snowfall rates in excess of an inch per hour at times.
With lake effect snow, the NWS says, drivers should be prepared for rapidly deteriorating conditions because lake effect weather can vary, with heavy snow just a few miles away from clear skies.
