SYRACUSE -- Jonny Flynn and Eric Devendorf combined for 49 points, Arinze Onuaku had 17, and Syracuse beat Richmond 76-71 on Tuesday night in the CBE Classic.
Syracuse (2-0) quickly erased its 38-31 halftime deficit with a 13-2 run in the first five minutes of the second half, and the Orange did so by hitting from long range just as the Spiders had in the opening half.
Flynn started it with two driving layups and then assisted on four straight baskets by Devendorf — three 3-pointers and a driving, left-handed layup that gave Syracuse a 44-40 lead at 15:46.
The Spiders (1-1) closed to 71-65 on a 3-pointer by Kevin Anderson with 2:05 left, but Flynn, who finished with 27 points, hit a layup and two free throws in the final minute. Flynn scored 16 points in the final 13:34.
David Gonzalvez had 18 points and Anderson added 15 for Richmond.
