It really bothers me to listen to the radio, the TV or pick up the newspaper to find an ad for the Rescue Mission seeking funds in Cayuga County.
Does anyone know that we have our own rescue mission, called Chapel House, right here in Cayuga County?
Chapel House opened in December of 2007, and to date has served more than 110 clients; all faced with homelessness in Cayuga County.
The clients are served breakfast and dinner; they are given a bag lunch to take with them.
They are given a warm, clean, safe place to sleep with shower facilities available.
Chapel House runs completely on donations and volunteers. Holy Family Church houses Chapel House and the Rev. Dennis Shaw has given several updates in weekly bulletins on the happening of Chapel House and their plight to get a building and move from the school.
During this holiday season, let's remember those at home in Cayuga County and donate to those who help our neighbors and keep the money local.
We never know, one day, with today's economy, anyone one of us could be faced with homelessness. I volunteer at Chapel House.
The clients are not drug addicts or alcoholics like some want to think. They are families, just like us, who are down on their luck.
It is hard to leave the children there at night to go home to my safe warm house, knowing they will be there in the morning and every day after, until they get needed help.
Please send your donation to the local families who can use your help this season.

then if they can their state,
if they can some more their country-USA
a simple canned good donated, will help feed someone!
our local elementary school just did a food drive, each child that brought in something received a sno-cone
( you may want hot-chocolate there!)
many also dont think of simple needed items such as razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, diapers, or baby powder..
My inlaws feed the homeless every week here, while also handing out clothes, socks, shoes, and backpacks. They have been semi-surprised at the amount of people asking for child items.
I also have a daughter who is a collector of stuffed animals, which were over-taking the house..the new rule began last year, if you BUY a new one, you MUST DONATE one in its place.
with X-mas coming soon its a good time to clean out your childs toy box and dresser--then DONATE. "
