HIT: To the city of Auburn for realizing that in these difficult economic times, going green can actually cost more green - greenbacks that is.
The city was looking at buying a pair of natural-gas powered trash compactors which would have been more environmentally friendly, but the green compactors would have cost between $70,000 to $90,000 more than conventional ones. The city hoped state or federal grants would help make up the difference but none could be found, so they chose to purchase conventional trucks instead.
The city is right to consider the environment when making equipment decisions, but there are times when it isn't feasible.

HIT: To the start of the Syracuse University men's and women's basketball seasons. The men have missed the NCAAs for two straight seasons, but with the return of Andy Rautins and Eric Devendorf from injuries, stand a good chance of getting to the tournament and contending for the Big East title.
