A Cayuga man was killed and his passenger injured Friday afternoon when a motorcycle they were riding crashed in Montezuma.

The Cayuga County Sheriff's Office said that Robert Spano Sr. and Dorothy Bennett, both of 529 River Road, Cayuga, were traveling westbound on Route 31 in Montezuma when Spano, who was operating the motorcycle, lost control. Both ended up in a ditch.

Spano, 50, and Bennett, 47, were both airlifted to University Hospital in Syracuse, where Spano died later Friday, police said.

Police said that Bennett sustained a possible head injury, and she was listed in stable condition at University Hospital Saturday afternoon.
