There are many upcoming events for the holidays at Sacred Heart Church on Melrose Road here in Auburn.
A parish Thanksgiving reception will be held to say thank you to all the parishioners for their efforts all year long from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21.
Sign-up weekend for volunteer opportunities for service in the parish will be held Nov. 22 and 23. Representatives will be available after all the masses to explain the various opportunities for service to Sacred Heart parish.
The Rosary Altar Society Christmas luncheon will take place at noon Wednesday, Dec. 17, at The Springside Inn. There will be a drawing for a beautiful cross stitch framed picture of Jesus for the benefit of Mission from the Heart.
And Sacred Heart parish will be delivering homemade Christmas cookies Sunday, Dec. 21, to the homebound, and plants will be delivered to bereaved. What a beautiful holiday tradition.
Thanks very much to Roberta Bellnier for sharing the good news from Sacred Heart.
In other news:
#&149; A pancake breakfast will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at the Knights of Columbus as a fundraiser for Mercy Health & Rehabilitation Center. Members of the Knights will serve pancakes, french toast, sausage, eggs, toast and beverages. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children. Proceeds will be used to provide activities for residents at the center.
#&149; The Family of God Church will hold a Christmas bazaar and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the church, 13165 Route 31 in Savannah. Baked goods, crafts, Christmas decorations and many numerous flea market items will be available.
#&149; Westminster Presbyterian Church will hold a fall luncheon program to discuss Refugee Resettlement from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the church, 17 William St., Auburn. Deb Virgo, sponsor coordinator for InterFaith Works of Central New York, will speak on her work with the Refugee Resettlement Program at the Center for New Americans in Syracuse. Visit www.interfaithworkscny.org/programs for more information. Lunch is $7 per person, and reservations are due by Sunday, Nov. 16, by calling the church office at 253-3331.
#&149; The Auburn Catholic Community will celebrate a joint Mass of Thanksgiving at 9:30 a.m. Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 27, at St. Mary's Church. This is such a beautiful service, with all of our local priests concelebrating the Mass.
As this year's host church, St. Mary's is inviting members of the Auburn Catholic Faith community in giving thanks for our many blessings. St. Mary's will also be celebrating an earlier community Mass at 7 a.m. for those who can't attend the concelebrated Mass. The collections will be divided between the St. Alphonsus Food Pantry and the Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes Emergency Assistance Program. Both programs have seen a substantial increase in the number of families who are in need.
#&149; Finally, don't forget that St. Hyacinth's ladies are busy making pierogi. Orders may be called in only on Thursdays until noon at 252-9547, and picked up on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $5.50 for a dozen. Enjoy!
Have a great week, and remember, God loves you so very much.
