FORT COVINGTON -- Three people are accused of attempting to smuggle nearly $2 million worth of the club drug Ecstasy into the U.S. via the Canadian border in northern New York.
Authorities say the arrests occurred Tuesday on Route 37 in Franklin County after U.S. Border Patrol agents received information from Customs and Border Protection officers at the Fort Covington border crossing.
Officials say the agents stopped two vehicles that had been identified as belonging to potential drug smugglers.
Authorities say a search of one of the vehicles turned up 58,000 Ecstasy pills, which are usually worth about $30 apiece on the street.
The suspects were turned over the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
Authorities haven't released the suspects' names.
