Starting next week, motorists should not plan to fill their tanks at the Port Byron Travel Plaza on the New York State Thruway.
The state Thruway Authority announced Thursday a fuel service renovation project at that rest stop that will start on Monday, Nov. 17 and last roughly three weeks. That means fuel will not be available during the Thanksgiving travel weekend.
The work is part of a series of renovations at travel plazas along the highway. Fuel islands will be refurbished, the canopy will be renovated and new kiosks will be installed.
During the renovations, food and restroom services will be available.
Motorists needing gas along that stretch of the thruway can try either the the Clifton Springs Travel Plaza, about 27 miles west of the Port Byron Travel Plaza, or the Dewitt Travel Plaza, located approximately 30 miles east of the Port Bryon Travel Plaza.
