ALBANY -- Attorney General Andrew Cuomo says $1.9 million from a pollution settlement last year are now available for low-income households to upgrade heating systems and weatherize against the cold.
According to the attorney general's office, the settlement with American Electric Power under the Clean Air Act includes $9.5 million over five years for energy efficiency and pollution cutting projects in New York. The company is also required to upgrade 16 coal-burning power plants to pollute less.
About three million households in New York heat with oil, many in rural areas, and the Oil Efficiency Pilot Program run by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority is expected to help about 500.
