Thank you to farmers for providing food for us all

I am writing this letter to address all those individuals that find it necessary to try and pass farmers while they are moving their equipment from field to field. The other day I was traveling down the road and got behind a farmer in a combine. A driver came up behind me and began to flash his lights at me and blow his horn. I looked in my rear view mirror and the driver was not only coming around me but also attempting to pass the combine. This driver ended up driving in the field in order to go around the combine. By doing this the driver needlessly put a lot of people's lives in danger. Makes me wonder if these individuals complain about farmers with food in their mouths. The next time that you think to complain about these farmers and their equipment look at your plates and say thank you instead. Without these dedicated men and women we would live in a very different world. To all the farmers out there I say thank you for everything you do.

" Some of those pieces of equipment are too big to be safe on the road. It's not a matter of slowing down behind them, which is as it should be, but of coming over a hill, driving carefully and keeping to the speed limit, and narrowly missing getting the huge tine of a combine (filling 3/4 of the whole road) in your windshield and taking your head off -- just missed one like that on Center St in Scipio once. I wasn't driving like a maniac or honking and flashing, I was in my own lane but with the hill, I couldn't see what was on the other side (nor could he see me) until it was almost too late. There are roads where equipment like that just should never, ever be on the road for pure safety reasons. There should be fewer to no exceptions made for any vehicle which is wider than one lane, and that includes prefab houses as well as farm equipment.

I believe there are more rules regulating such traffic, but they aren't enforced. "
