Two Cents

I just realized the degree of peace with the television set in the off position. It's great!

Dr. Kiltz is absolutely correct with his assertion that our modern day society causes many of us to get sick, both mentally and physically. There are so many things in our society that we have no control over which affects us --- truly ignorance is bliss!

This is to all you people who think that you can break the law and get away with it. Read the paper because you will get caught!

Do the voters in District 15 realize that the reason Cindy Aikman no longer works for the city's Planning Department is because she is not a team player. To Cindy Aikman, it's her way or the highway.

If Obama is a Socialist, then all his supporters are Socialists. This inevitable numbskull logic is the same garbage that will keep this country divided and keep real problems from getting solved.

When I think about it, Obama and David Duke are alike in some ways; little experience in government, but articulate and attractive with good fashion sense. Also both have histories that worry me.

Obama's fundraising via the Internet makes me wonder if a presidential campaign has now outsourced its funding.

" NY's armpit? jeeze it aint that bad! So is SOCAL the stinky feet?

And regardless what papers u have, it d/n matter much unless u are flapping them in the breeze to the powers that be at that moment. My mother had a DNR on file at the nursing hoome and when she went into cardiac arrest, 5 people worked on her for over 30 minutes in three (NH/AMB/ER) locations. I dont comprehend why the idea of legal papers has superceded the desire of gay people to be married if they so wish? Paper is paper but to some what peice really matters is a license.

I agree Unknown as I was censored yesterday but perhaps my response to cm's comments yesterday were a bit heated lol. "

my mom died leaving 2 sisters age 6 & 8.
the 'warden' remarried a month later to a drunk. a month after that the 'warden' went to jail.
my sisters ON school nights were in a local bar, 'till 2am, tending to themselves while step-mom was 3 sheets to the wind..

I lived in CA..I spent my own money going back n forth, dealings with the court, for custody.
I won!
I was 27 with 3 kids of my own, I took on 2 more. (hubby was out to sea)

AS I have said before, in 21 yrs of marriage we have lived with our CORE family alone for ONLY 6 months.
my house is a revolving door!
there is always a family or friend living here FREE.

Ice queen, to those that cross me--YOU BETCHA. but in general life NOT AT ALL. "

all their snowbird friends know where it is, I know where it is, their local doctors have a copy, as well as both hospitals close to their winter home has copies, and her daughter in maine has copies.

if an 80 yr old can plan and know where her papers are, I think any gay person could do the same! "

" karl: everyone knows you keep legal documents in a safe place...like a safe!
You can also have copies in your medical file!!
You can also have your lawyer, your parents, your siblings, whomever you like to have copies!

I dont see where I am being cold..when in fact many man/woman marriages fail to do the paperwork and have the same troubles concerning PARENTS who disagree!
even when a couple has married for 10+years, mom or dad may NOT like the spouse and take it to court.

NO ONE can dispute a 'paper' as long as it is properly signed, sealed, and delivered!

on the flip side, even being married to a man, if I choose to NOT want him in or at my hospital room, Not to make my medical decisions, not to recieve my life insurance, not to have any say in my funeral, I can type up a paper and notorize it, make sure all those I want to have it do, and my wishes must be followed!!!
just as he can do the same to me.

sorry, but reality is if you want something done,
1. do it yourself
2. do your paperwork properly
3. make it known to all that might disagree.

you tell me> why should gays have any more rights than you and your girlfriend have right now?

you're not married..
1. does SHE have the power to decide to pull the plug?
2. does she have the power to decide where you are to be buried and how?
3. does she have the power to dispurse your bank accounts, your belongings, your motorcycle to whomever she pleases?
4. does she have the power to control anything of your estate?

UNLESS YOU do your paperwork--your parents decide everything should you become incapacitated!

so married or single...without the papers you are up the creek without your paddle! "

(piece of paper--simply notorized)"

--honestly, cm. I swear this--I simply sat here, dumbfounded and shaking my head at the unfeeling heartlessness and naivete of this statement!
I could think of a dozen situations where a person with a health care plan already in place would be severely injured unexpectedly and close to death, and you think that somebody has the time to sit there and sort through some damned paperwork?!?! You think a hospital is going to broach its rules when a person is in danger of imminent death because of a piece of paper?!
If it were that easy, cm, it wouldn't be an issue! But of course, I strongly suspect that you already know this. You seem to have an answer for everything, huh?
You are truly an Ice Queen. Seriously--what happened to you to make you so heartless and unfeeling? I shudder to think that you actually have children around you under your influence.
It's easy to criticize and pontificate from your own high horse when you ALREADY ENJOY the right which you would deny Gays, isn't it?
You know what?
I make no apology for the low opinion that I hold of you. Quite simply, you deserve it. "

cm, this sincerely proves beyond the shadow of a doubt how truthfully IGNORANT of the issue you really are--you haven't even bothered to educate yourself on the issue before forming your opinion have you?

For your information, there are over 1,400 rights that Gay people are denied under the law by being denied "married" status. These include the right to be at oe partner's bedside during illness or even death in a hospital, and coverage under insurance plans to name a few of the bigger issues. Not to mention possession of property to which you alluded.

Like nature, I had issues with my dads legal NOT doings..my sis had POA which she got very sneaky with a shady Auburn lawyer, however she did not know I had health care proxy. AGAIN 2 different papers.

In my mom's death, the 'warden' gave all her stuff to his new wife (1 month later) and her daughters recieved nothing, not even a pair of earrings!

In my beneficiaries, I hubby would get only half of life insurance and the kids would get shares.
In case they have a blow-out of some sort.

They do not take out advertising campaigns on issues of public policy!

A tax-exempt organization must prove that it serves the Public Interest--AS OPPOSED TO A PRIVATE INTEREST--in order to qualify. Therefore, they can NOT push private, partisan issues in political roles!

Consider this, people--a tax exempted is a tax on the rest of us. It effectively shifts the burden to the rest of society, In this respect, it does not discriminate as to upon whom that burden falls.
Therefore it can NOT lobby for its own PRIVATE INTERESTS!
If you donate 1,000 to a church, and are in the 30% tax bracket, you deny the government $300 dollars of that taxable figure otherwise. Multiply that by millions of taxpayers, and you can see very easily how that deficit impacts the government and ALL citizen!

So when a Church is lobbying against the political interest of ANY citizens, it is BY DEFINITION violating the very letter of the law, as well as the underlying principle which supports that law!
If churches want to politic, they SHOULD pay taxes on their income then! "

Are gay people worse parents? Honestly, I really shake my head and wonder what happened to all the so called god fearin' people out there when it seems they put their own feeling ahead of others. I don't go for racism, and that applies regardless if the racist is white -- or black. It does exist, on both sides of the color barrier -- but it didn't apply as the significant factor in this election -- neither those voting against Obama because they were white racists, or those voting for him because they were black racists. As another letter-writer acknowledged, even if 96% of the African-Americans who voted chose Obama, he would not have won the election without significant support from white voters. "

Last time gas cost this much, I was commuting to the lawyer's office in Canandaigua and upset when it went over $2.35, as I wasn't quite settled about it going over $2.00 yet. That was about February 2004. "

He's telling the Religious Right that it's time to get the hell out of politics:

"Too many conservative evangelicals have put too much faith in the power of government to transform culture. The futility inherent in such misplaced faith can be demonstrated by asking these activists a simple question: Does the secular left, when it holds power, persuade conservatives to live by their standards? Of course they do not. Why, then, would conservative evangelicals expect people who do not share their worldview and view of God to accept their beliefs when they control government?

"If results are what conservative evangelicals want, they already have a model. It is contained in the life and commands of Jesus of Nazareth. Suppose millions of conservative evangelicals engaged in an old and proven type of radical behavior. Suppose they followed the admonition of Jesus to "love your enemies, pray for those who persecute you, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit those in prison and care for widows and orphans," not as ends, as so many liberals do by using government, but as a means of demonstrating God's love for the whole person in order that people might seek Him?"

"Evangelicals are at a junction. They can take the path that will lead them to more futility and ineffective attempts to reform culture through government, or they can embrace the far more powerful methods outlined by the One they claim to follow. By following His example, they will decrease, but He will increase. They will get no credit, but they will see results. If conservative evangelicals choose obscurity and seek to glorify God, they will get much of what they hope for, but can never achieve, in and through politics."

Sigh...if only they would LISTEN!!! "

" From the Al Gore (tm) interwebs:

Although I have not always been the most outspoken advocate of President-Elect Barack Obama, today I would like to congratulate him and add my voice to the millions of fellow citizens who are celebrating his historic and frightening election victory. I don't care whether you are a conservative or a liberal -- when you saw this inspiring young African-American rise to our nation's highest office I hope you felt the same sense of patriotic pride that I experienced, no matter how hard you were hyperventilating with deep existential dread.

Yes, I know there are probably other African-Americans much better qualified and prepared for the presidency. Much, much better qualified. Hundreds, easily, if not thousands, and without any troubling ties to radical lunatics and Chicago mobsters. Gary Coleman comes to mind. But let's not let that distract us from the fact that Mr. Obama's election represents a profound, positive milestone in our country's struggle to overcome its long legacy of racial divisions and bigotry. It reminds us of how far we've come, and it's something everyone in our nation should celebrate in whatever little time we now have left.

Less than fifty years ago, African-Americans were barred from public universities, restaurants, and even drinking fountains in many parts of the country. On Tuesday we came together and transcended that shameful legacy, electing an African-American to the country's top job -- which, in fact, appears to be his first actual job. Certainly, it doesn't mean that racism has disappeared in America, but it is an undeniable mark of progress that a majority of voters no longer consider skin color nor a dangerously gullible naivete as a barrier to the presidency.

It's also heartening to realize that as president Mr. Obama will soon be working hand-in-hand with a former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard like Senator Robert Byrd to craft the incoherent and destructive programs that will plunge the American economy into a nightmare of full-blown sustained depression. As Vice President-Elect Joe Biden has repeatedly warned, there will be difficult times ahead and the programs will not always be popular, or even sane. But as we look out over the wreckage of bankrupt coal companies, nationalized banks, and hyperinflation, we can always look back with sustained pride on the great National Reconciliation of 2008. Call me an optimist, but I like to think when America's breadlines erupt into riots it will be because of our shared starvation, not the differences in our color.

It's obvious that this newfound pride is not confined to Americans alone. All across the world, Mr. Obama's election has helped mend America's tattered image as a racist, violent cowboy, willing to retaliate with bombs at the slightest provocation. The huge outpouring of international support following the election shows that America can still win new friendships while rebuilding its old ones, and provides Mr. Obama with unprecedented diplomatic leverage over our remaining enemies. When Russian tanks start pouring into eastern Europe and Iranian missiles begin raining down on Jerusalem, their leaders will know they will be facing a man who not only conquered America's racial divide but the hearts of the entire Cannes film community. And those Al Qaeda terrorists plotting a dirty nuke or chemical attack on San Francisco face a stark new reality: while they may no longer need to worry about US Marines, they are looking down the barrel of a strongly worded diplomatic condemnation by a Europe fully united in their deep sympathy for surviving Americans.

So for now, let's put politics aside and celebrate this historic milestone. In his famous speech at the Lincoln Memorial 45 years ago, Dr. King said "I have a dream that one day my children will live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." Let us now take pride that Tuesday we Americans proved that neither thing matters anymore.

So while there are folks in the African-American community who are dubious of Obama's white heritage, I think most people would still consider him to be a "black man."

I once read that you will not find any African-Americans in this country, unless they have immigrated here recently, who do not have at least a little "white blood" in their heritage -- such is the legacy of slavery. " The black americans are just happy that an african american man has attained the presidency. They can truly tell their children that they can rise up from poverty, get an education and someday be president just like a white man can. They are not pumping their fists in the air demanding anything. They just want the same things we do such as affordable healthcare and a better economic situation. Stop saying "they" want. They are individuals and you can't lump them together as a group without being bigoted. Obama has a clue about life in this country because he has memories of his childhood. He lived a working class life as a child and learned from the school of hard knocks. So where do you get this observation that he can't relate to the average man? "

I just read the archive about palin/grandson letter...
how DO you know what the daughter and boyfriend said??? where you there in the back seat, or in his/her bedroom??

maybe she wanted to get pregnant to 'trap/keep' him (as many girls do)..
maybe they both wanted a child...
(as many young kids do)...

I know several girls who have lied about their birth control..

I know for a fact my middle child son had talked about having kids when he was 16, he wants all of them while he's young.
He's 23, with a 3 & 1 yrs old!!
his plan is when he's 45 the kids will be grown and moved out...
(as mom laughed, saying they always come back---lol)

but YOU havent a clue as to what this couple/girl/boy were planning behinds closed doors!!! "

My sis in Ny isnt the only person in Ny that I know is personally abusing the system..there are hundreds in Auburn if the system would do their jobs and check more often!

paying taxes doesnt mean it always goes for the good programs either.
some goes to other countries, some dollars pay for Congress's raises, and some pays for neglected debts left by others who dont pay.

such as a 65 yr old illegal who has a heart attack and cant pay the hospital bill,
the hospital goes to the state for funds,
the state goes to the federal for funds,
we pay into the federal taxes..
(I just watched this on the local county channel)

SO, I am totally against illegals getting one penny, no matter what its for! "

" The biggest chunks of unearned government hand-outs around Cayuga County don't go to the poor and unemployed -- they go to corporate dairy farms to help them put small family farms out of business, pollute our environment and make their neighbors ill. They can pursue their healthy profits while the mess they make doing so is left to us to clean up -- like when we have to pay to put lids on their manure ponds, or to clean up "non-point-source" pollution they (and the DEC) pretend comes from someplace else -- while we all know whence it comes.

Yes, indeed, I hope you were thinking about those welfare hand-outs to successful agribusiness corporations who don't need or deserve it when you pulled down on the Republican levers for State Assembly and Senate this past Tuesday, because that's what you voted for. Just check the mailings you get regularly from Nozzolio and even more so from Finch -- all their bragging about how hard they work to help the corporate agribusiness (which is destroying the environment, economy and social fabric) of this region. I'm sure you feel that is a better use of our tax dollars than, say, preventative health care for those without insurance (funding for which was just cut).

BTW, my personal opinion only -- I speak for myself. "

My point-----the average black American has been pumping their fists in the air, and celebrating the first African American president, and thinking that they now have a leg up--when the reality of it is--Obama lives in a big house, has lots of money, and has not a worry in the world that is comparable to the average american, let alone the average african american. They will be upset when Obama doesn't tilt the table towards them. Now, Karl, as you may recall, I wasn't for or against either candidate, and wrote about them on a rare occaision, so you can't say that I am getting my digs in on Obama. I truly hope he does a good job, and that I will be better off after he leaves office. We'll see. I was only speaking about the black people that voted for him ONLY BECAUSE HE IS PART BLACK. They had no mind of their own, and think that they will get something out of it because they voted for him. "

It was the perfect thing to get them started on a particular job when I was super-busy and wouldn't be able to focus on teaching them as I normally would. I think "the book," if it is any good, is perfectly acceptable as a temporary part-time substitute when you are ill. After all, if you sit close by and train them, you make pass on your illness and no one would appreciate that. Give yourself and your trainees a one-day break and get better before returning to the personal one-on-one training you ordinarily do. "

I see him as one who used the race card to help get him elected, but will not cater to the black America. Taxes and people to administer that money has been and are an American way for generations and is not socialism. If in America, u r lucky enough to have achieved that dream of making more than 250k per year, then what is wrong with paying a bit more in taxes? I know personally our base line has increased exponentially since the 1st day on the job eons ago and so havent our taxes AND donations and volunteerism. I would not be where I am today without needing assistance of a gov't program when I was 20 so that I could work on my 1st college degree. And think of the elderly needing heap or how about a young gifted child but cant get out of his home situation or early childhood development/food programs, fire depts, FBI, etc? They is SOOO much good being done with our tax dollars. Once we pull out of a vendetta war we will have even more for the needy. When we all do well the country as a whole does well and prospers.
