Auburn relays move on to finals

For the 11th consecutive season, all three Auburn girls swimming relay teams will compete in the finals.
The Maroons' 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay each placed in the top five in the first day of the Section III, Class A finals on Thursday.

Kelsey Roe, Makenzie Hauger, Tracy Miller and Tiffany Kline finished fifth (1:58.32) in the 200 medley relay as Roe (29.87), Hauger (32.10) and Miller (29.98) earned personal best times in their respective heats.

Mallorie Dygert, Ashley King, Kara Cunningham and Molly Swartz took fourth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:45.09), as Cunningham (26.10) and Swartz (26.68) swam personal bests in the relay. Dygert, King (57.30), Cunningham (57.71) and Roe (55.48) placed fourth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:47.28), and the final three swimmers came in with their best times in that relay as well.

The Maroons, with 237 points, are in fourth place in their class, behind Liverpool (287), Fayetteville-Manlius (372.5) and Christian Brothers Academy (459.5).

Auburn also fared well in individual events. In the 200 freestyle, Cunningham placed seventh overall with a personal best time of 2:04.04, King took eighth (2:04.44), Allison White came in 16th with a lifetime best 2:12.75 and Bethany Schroeder was 21st with a personal best time of 2:14.80.

In the 200 IM, Hauger swam a personal best time of 2:23.07 for a sixth place finish. Dygert came in 11th in the 50 free (26.20), Swartz came in with a best time of 27.21 for 18th place, Molly Blair was 23rd (27.67) and Robyn Clary finished 26th (28.31).

All three Maroons swam personal best times in the 100 butterfly, with Roe leading the way in fourth place (1:01.89), Miller in 15th place (1:09.34) and Michaela Elliot in the 18th (1:10.47).

Dygert also swam a personal best in the 100 freestyle (56.03) to earn fourth place. Kline came in 17th in the event (59.85), Swartz was 19th (59.93) for a personal best time and Bair came in 24th (1:02.42).

In the 500 freestyle, King swam a lifetime best 5:29.7 to take fourth place. Cunningham came in seventh (5:36.19), Miller was 19th (6:02.35) and Allison White was 21st (6:06.03).

Roe finished fourth (1:03.56) in the 100 backstroke, but is the only Maroons swimmer that didn't earn a personal best time in the event on the first day. Bethany Schroeder came in 10th (1:08.10), Elliot took 13th (1:09.35) and Kline came in 15th (1:10.08).

Hauger took sixth place in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.64) to earn a best time. Also swimming their best were Tiffani Chovich in 11th place (1:15.29) and Amanda Falsey in 19th place (1:17.80).

The finals will be held Saturday morning at the Nottingham High School pool.
