Aurora Inn cutting back operations

After five years of continuous business, the Aurora Inn will close its doors this winter and return to being a seasonal facility.
Ann Rollo, the vice president of community and college relations for Wells College, which owns the inn, said a weak economy had slowed down the Finger Lake region's tourism industry prompting the decision to close down for the winter.

"The hospitality industry has been feeling the effects of a down turn," Rollo said. "This was the logical step to make."

Rollo said seasonal operations were nothing new for the inn since that was how business had previously been conducted.

" Its too bad for the employees. One would think that if the Inn took care of the locals more, they in return would do the same. That is not the case. "

" Our favorite in Aurora is Pumpkin Hill.It is always busy , the staff is outstanding, and the food is delicious. Give it a try--they do close in late December but reopen in the spring. "

" Heck, they've always closed in winter when the college owned the business. If they took pains to cater to the locals who support businesses through the winter, they might be able to stay open, but they are always bringing in snooty outsiders to manage the place who don't like having locals around. Only when Pleasant was underwriting the expenses to keep it open did it not close over the winter. Rollo can blame the economy to put spin on the picture, but the fact remains that the Aurora Inn has always closed in winter except the years Pleasant paid to keep it open. "
