J-E's Stanton wins Section III title

Jordan-Elbridge junior Cody Stanton earned an individual Section III title, as he took first place (16:32.1) in the Class C boys cross country race at Jamesville Beach County Park on Friday.
Stanton also qualified for the New York State meet, which will be at Sunken Meadow State Park in Long Island on Nov. 8. The Eagles finished second with 62 points behind Holland Patent in Class C.

Also making the trip to states is Stanton's teammate Mike Marrero, who came in fourth overall (16:55.6), while Greg Bader took 11th (17:42.9), Steve Slonosky was 16th (17:53.5) and Tom Poppe took 31st overall (18:24.6). Also finishing in Class C was Skaneateles' Calvin Davis in 20th (17:58.6), Sam Kriever in 64th (19:34.9) and Steve Tucker in 65th (19:35.3). The Lakers finished incomplete as a team.

Also competing in the boys' race was Auburn, who came in 10th as a team in Class AA. Rob Culver was 30th (17:44.8) to lead the Maroons. Pat Lattimore took 41st (18:06.6), Kierran Cotter was 79th (19:31.1), Ricky Rainone was 85th (19:47) and Paul Farinelli was 92nd (20:02.2).

In the boys' Class D race, Weedsport took third place with 93 points behind winner Beaver River with 43. Cato-Meridian placed ninth with a score of 282 and Port Byron came in 12th with 328 points.

Finishing for the Panthers was Christian Cobb in seventh place (17:45.4), which earned him a trip to states. His teammate Mike Borst came in 57th (20:10.5), while Zac Leja was 83rd (21:00.4), Tyler Wellington took 117th (22:36.0) and Will Rice came in 119th (22:48.3).

For the Warriors, Andrew Smith narrowly missed out on states with a ninth-place finish (17:57), while Johnny Bos came in 13th (18:08.8), Mike Greer took 18th (18:23), Zack Field was 28th (18:56) and Logan Thompson came in 34th (19:16.9).

Joe Mattice finished in 33rd place (19:16.5) for Cato-Meridian. Carl Tausend took 40th (19:28.5), Thomas Klaben came in 58th (20:11.5), Robert McLain finished 86th (21:16.3) and Larry Treasure finished 95th (21:44.6).

Skaneateles' Rachel Hosie highlighted the girls' races with a third overall finish (19:41.2) to lead the Lakers in a fourth-place team finish with 143 points in Class C, behind Tully, who won with 47 points. Jordan-Elbridge came in sixth with 154 points.

Hosie also qualified for states, while her teammate Christie Barnett came in an impressive 10th (20:42.7). Beatrice Walton took 40th (22:10.5), Alexis Mazzeo placed 48th (22:38.4) and Courtney Pitman was 51st (22:46.1).

For the Eagles, Nicole Stroud came in 12th (20:47), Nicole Darling was 23rd (21:11.6), Courtney Hourigan placed 33rd (21:51.2), Kim Foltz was 34th (21:58.1) and Jessica Salisbury came in 61st (23:17.5).

In Class D, Weedsport placed fifth with 153 points, Cato-Meridian took ninth with 236 points and Port Byron came in 10th with 285 points.

Leading the Warriors were Alyssa O'Bryan in 26th (22:51.4), Nicole Greer placed 31st (23:07.7), Erin Daly took 32nd (23:12.9), Michele Donahue was 34th (23:17.9) and Ashley Edmuds came in 48th (24:22.8).

Jordan Weir placed 38th (23:33.6) to lead the Blue Devils. Aubrey Campbell was 46th (23:59.4), Angelina Argese placed 53rd (24:44), Jessica Cushman came in 69th (25:52.8) and Jessica Boyle was 70th (25:54.6).

For the Panthers, Nicole Carey placed 57th (25:10.6), Felicia Darrow took 64th (25:37.7), Christina Rooker was 71st (25:58.5), Amanda Vitale placed 73rd (26:10.4) and Heather Kurtz came in 74th (26:18.5).

In Class AA, Auburn placed ninth overall with 253 points, led by Liz Mahoney in 25th (21:11.3). Patricia Fleischman took 54th (22:19.8), Meghan Guzewicz placed 63rd (23:04.3), Kerry Lupo was 82nd (24:18.8) and Meghan Peck took 90th (25:20.6).
