I am writing this letter concerning a referendum that will be on the ballot in the Town of Fleming.
Referendum No. 1 asks the voters to vote to extend the term of three elected positions: the town clerk, the highway superintendent and the position of town supervisor.
None of the elected officials currently in those positions would have their current term extended. The term extensions would only take place for anyone running for those offices in 2009 and starting their terms Jan. 1, 2010.
The makeup of the board now has all four of the board members serving four year terms.
The town supervisor serves a two-year term.
The town clerk and the highway superintendent are also two-year terms.
Having all the elected positions serving four years would provide continuity and enhance working relationships among all those positions.
Fleming voters, please vote yes for Referendum No. 1.
