A Montezuma man was charged with second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony, after members from the Finger Lakes Drug Task Force recovered more than eight pounds of pot in his home Thursday night, police said.
David J. Smith of 8404 East Loop Road, Montezuma, was arrested Thursday after the task force, comprised of officers from the Auburn Police Department and the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office, executed a search warrant at his home at about 9:08 p.m., according to a press release from the APD.

Police said that the marijuana was packaged in a way that indicated an intent for resale and that the eight pounds have a street value of about $20,000.

Smith was arraigned in Montezuma Town Court and remanded to the Cayuga County Jail on $10,000 cash, $20,000 bond. On Friday, Smith posted $10,000 cash to be released on bail.

" Its a sure thing that most law officers
are correct in making assumptions. To sa
y that they were packaged in such a way
to indicate resale,is Hear-Say,kind of.
Its just a chance that the Marijuana
was bought this way.Its a sure thing
the man is guilty, but then why do they
always put on extra charges. He was charged with possession, and let it go
until you catch him selling it. "

" It`s a crime when this stuff gets into the hand of our teens. The ones who push drugs and alcohol to our young need to be brought to justice!

Scum bags! "

Sheesh! What a "child of the IGNORANCE!"
Hmm...I guess we know what corn-kiddo spends his paycheck on, huh?
Marijuana IS HARMFUL! DUMMY!
Remeber, y'all--users are LOOOOOOOOSERS!!! "

" This is a good example of the argument to legalize marijuana. Though they were doing their job, the officers could be better placed focusing on violent crimes in Auburn and elsewhere. Marijuana is not harmful to anyone. "
