A Montezuma man was charged with second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony, after members from the Finger Lakes Drug Task Force recovered more than eight pounds of pot in his home Thursday night, police said.
David J. Smith of 8404 East Loop Road, Montezuma, was arrested Thursday after the task force, comprised of officers from the Auburn Police Department and the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office, executed a search warrant at his home at about 9:08 p.m., according to a press release from the APD.
Police said that the marijuana was packaged in a way that indicated an intent for resale and that the eight pounds have a street value of about $20,000.
Smith was arraigned in Montezuma Town Court and remanded to the Cayuga County Jail on $10,000 cash, $20,000 bond. On Friday, Smith posted $10,000 cash to be released on bail.
