In addition to providing information to residents by mail, the district will hold public information sessions in the upcoming weeks.

In other news:

#&149; The JE social studies department simulated the American electoral experience for students. The high school held a presidential primary in mid-October where 18 students auditioned and gave speeches to about 175 students in the attempt to win one of the presidential nominations.

Will Smithson, Ryan Badman, Elliot Kline and Reed Johnson were elected through paper ballots to be the presidential candidates.

They chose their running mates from the pool of candidates who did not win the primary election.

Then at 7:45 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, the high school will hold a political rally. During this rally, students will role play and give campaign speeches as if they were John McCain, Barack Obama, Ralph Nader and Bob Barr (libertarian candidate).

In addition to the presidential candidates, their vice presidential running mates will also give speeches. Many other students will be involved to simulate the election/politics (secret service agents, spouses, media, etc.).

All students will be able to cast a vote for their favorite candidate Nov. 4 during their social studies class and will use an actual ballot booth to enrich the voting experience.

“We hope to generate some real enthusiasm for the election process through our series of political activities. The entire high school student body will be involved in some shape or form,” said Roger Roman, a high school social studies teacher.
