The Liberty Big Band of the United States Air Force Band of Liberty will perform contemporary and classic jazz at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3 at the Emerson Auditorium in East Middle School, Auburn.
The concert, sponsored by the Italian Heritage Society of Auburn and Cayuga County, is dedicated to Veterans Day, especially the veterans of the Korean War since this year marks the 55th anniversary of the cessation of hostilities in Korea.
The Liberty Big Band, an ensemble of 18 musicians, will pay homage to the big bands of the past as well as playing the work of modern composers such as Maria Schneider, Mike Crotty, Sandy Megas and Brett Zvzcek.
While the concert is free, tickets must be obtained ahead of time by writing to: Italian Heritage Society c/o Prof. Joseph Camardo, 206 Genesee St., Auburn, NY 13021. Each request must include a self-addressed stamped envelope and is limited to four tickets.
The ensemble is part of the United States Air Force Band of Liberty stationed at Hascom Air Force base outside of Boston and is made up of active duty Air Force personnel.
