Two brothers arrested last month by the Auburn Police Department on charges of burglarizing the city parking garage and possessing stolen property are now facing additional charges, detectives said.

Steven Pyne, 26, of 7 Grover St., Apt. 2, and Michael S. Pyne, 23, of the same address, were originally arrested on Sept. 22 for burglary and criminal mischief, both felonies, after they were accused of breaking down the door of a toll booth in the city parking garage to steal $240 worth of CDs, detectives said. Steven was also charged with criminal possession of stolen property after he allegedly stole $38 dollars worth of cans from the Frosted Nickel on 28 Clark St., which were recycled at Wegmans in Auburn, police said.

After further investigation, detectives have now charged Steven with two felony sex offender violations for failing to report a change of address and failing to verify his address, and one count of issuing a bad check for $31, a misdemeanor, detectives said. According to the state sex offender registry, Steven is on parole for sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl in Oswego County.

Michael was additionally charged with two counts of issuing a bad check for more than $15 and reckless endangerment of property for allegedly starting a fire in the parking garage, all misdemeanors, and with felony criminal mischief after he was accused of smashing in the windshield of a city downtown improvement truck, detectives said.

Both brothers were being held in the Cayuga County Jail when they were arrested for the new charges. Steven is currently held on bail, which was set at $5,500 cash or $11,000 bond, and Michael was held on $6,000 cash or $8,500 bond.
