The two incumbent state senators representing parts of Cayuga County continue to enjoy substantial fundraising advantages over their opponents, so much so that they shared their wealth with their state party campaigns.

The latest and final campaign finance disclosure reports before the Nov. 4 election had to be filed by Friday.

In the 54th Senate District, the documents show Republican state Sen. Michael Nozzolio now has a fund balance of $358,739, compared with $29,767 for Democratic challenger Paloma Capanna. The amount the candidates brought in to their campaigns since the previous filing three weeks earlier was relatively close, with Capanna raising $12,097 compared with Nozzolio's $18,425. But Nozzolio spent $170,429 while Capanna's expenses totaled $7,397.

A big portion of Nozzolio's expenses came from a $100,000 transfer into the New York State Senate Republican Campaign Committee.

A similar transfer was reported by Democratic state Sen. David Valesky in his campaign in the 49th Senate District. Valesky moved $50,000 out of his campaign to the statewide Senate Democratic Campaign Committee. The Valesky campaign now has $67,494, compared with $19,808 for his Republican challenger, James DiStefano. Valesky raised $22,150 during the latest reporting period, while he spent $120,137. DiStefano brought in $2,220 while his expenses reached $18,306.

In the race for the 123rd Assembly District, incumbent Republican Assemblyman Gary Finch has a $21,799 balance. His receipts totaled $20,447 while expenses were $9,274. The Democratic challenger, Barbara Abbott King, has $715 left after she received $3,177 and spent $1,897.

The other contested state Legislature race locally - the battle for the 129th Assembly District - pits incumbent Republican Assemblyman Brian Kolb, who has $64,638 on hand, against Democratic challenger Noah Sargent, who has $5,199. Kolb receipts reached $17,179 during the last reporting period, while expenses were $29,781. Sargent received $400 while he spent $100.
