Prevention works when we work together!

Cayuga County youths were able to share their views and concerns about the health compromising habit of smoking cigarettes via a calendar. Volunteers from CHAD's education program, Drug Awareness Resource Training, contributed illustrations and quotes to be considered for the calendar. Reality Check members chose the drawings and quotes. There were so many super ones, it was hard to choose! Reality Check is the youth component of the New York state tobacco control program overseen by Prevention Network.

Thank you to all students, parents, teachers and principals who were involved in making the calendar a success. Special thanks goes to the Reality Check program which sponsored the calendar production. The tobacco control programs are making an impact on smoking in Cayuga County. Most young people agree that smoking can hurt one's chances of reaching goals.

The 2006 survey of Cayuga County adults reported 71 percent making healthy choices around tobacco; 2008 reported more than 82 percent making the healthy choice to not smoke! What a change through tobacco use prevention!
