Off of passes from Laura Taylor and Marissa Slayton, Sarah Green and Brittany Rabuano each scored in the second half to help the 10th seeded Auburn girls soccer team earn a 2-1 win over No. 7 Rome Free Academy in the Section III, Class AA playoffs Wednesday.
“The girls were very positive,” Maroons coach Tom Quest said. “At the half we talked about executing plays and they came out and did it starting with a nice head ball from (Green), a play we have been working on a lot lately. We are just taking it one game at a time now and the girls are very excited.”
Auburn advances to play Christian Brothers Academy on Saturday.

Hillary Chidsey saved five for the Chiefs as they also had the deficit in shots on goal, 8-4 and corner kicks, 5-2 ending their playoff journey.
GIRLS SWIMMING
Liverpool 97, Auburn 72
Kelsey Roe earned a first place finish and a personal best time (1:03.09) in the 100 butterfly to lead the Maroons. The senior also finished second in the 200 IM (2:23.80) and swam the first leg in the second-place 200 medley relay (2:02.76) with Tracy Miller, Kara Cunningham and Makenzie Hauger.
Mallorie Dygert came in second in the 200 freestyle (2:06.76), swam the first leg in the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:59.06) and the first leg of the second-place 200 freestyle relay (1:47.56) with Hauger, Roe and Ashley King. King came in first in the 500 freestyle (5:38.86), while Hauger took second in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.76).
The Maroons (7-3) travel to the West Genesee Invitational on Tuesday.

Auburn, fourth place
Rob Culver led the Maroons in seventh place (17:17) as the Maroons came in fourth of 17 teams. Pat Lattimore came in 15th (18:08), John Tehan took 18th (18:18), Ricky Rainone was 25th (18:56), Gary Leader placed 37th (19:21), Kierran Cotter was 38th (19:22) and Paul Farinelli pulled in 45th (20:55).
The Maroons compete at the Section III meet at Jamesville Beach in Chittenango on Friday.
