It's sad that Meg Stapleton is using her family history

Thursday, October 23, 2008 12:02 AM EDT

After watching the conversation between Alaska Rep Les Gara and Meg Stapleton, it is pretty clear to see just how brainwashed some people are. It saddens me that an educated person like Stapleton can't answer a simple question. Instead, she has to spew her hate to try and get her point across.
What is also sad is; she has no clue as to the background of the person she directs this to. Walt Monegan's father served his country in the Korean War in the Marine Corps, where he was bestowed the highest honor one can get, “The Congressional Medal of Honor.” Walt himself served with honor in the Marine Corps and does not deserve the disrespect from those whom he served for.

It is disgusting that Meg Stapleton had the gall to mention her grandfather and brother who is a “decorated Marine” in her defense of the character assassination she and Ed O'Callahan attempted. I am sure your grandfather and brother are really proud of your comments. Being a Marine Corps combat vet myself, I find her choice of words and using her brother as an excuse to use them appalling. I speak for myself in that we are not amused with her antics and maybe it is time she went back home and quit speaking for us up here in Alaska.

Meg, I am truly sorry you think the way you do, but that is your right as an American. Do the right thing and apologize to the people you slandered.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.

Semper Fidelis, Walt.

" Lance,

It sounds like you are saying Meg Stapleton or anyone else for that matter cannot question a Marine.
Walt Monegan, while he is a Marine, does not make him exempt from criticism.
Ms.Stapleton was only defending herself from endless harassment from Alaska Rep Les Gara, who by the way is from NY just like Ms.Stapleton, maybe he should head back home.
Perhaps Ms.Stapleton should not have used her grandfather and brother as examples of Marines but it was her way of saying she has nothing against the Marines, and Mr Gara made it sound like Meg had an issue with the Marines.
Marines while honorable men and women who sacrafice so much for our country still make mistakes and are not excempt from character assassination, especially when they are guily of insubordination. "
