ALBANY — A 22-year-old University at Albany student from Long Island is dead after being shot in the head on a city street near downtown Washington Park.
Richard Bailey, a senior from Wantagh in Nassau County, was shot at about 11:20 p.m. Monday while walking alone in an Albany neighborhood popular with students.
He was spotted by a passing driver and taken by paramedics to Albany Medical Center, where he was placed on life support.
He died shortly after being taken off life support Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators say they’re still looking for a motive and no arrests have been made.
The university says it is increasing its police presence around the downtown campus near the shooting scene.
A candlelight service for Bailey will be held Wednesday on campus.
