ALBANY -- New York agency heads are developing plans to address a growing budget deficit by cutting state spending.
The state Division of Budget is holding public hearings in Albany Wednesday to get updates from the Office of General Services; Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation; Department of Health; Office for Technology; and the Division of Housing and Community Renewal.

Agencies like OGS have already taken steps to reduce energy costs. Officials say turning off lights and adjusting thermostats cut energy consumption by 8 percent in more than 50 buildings and more than 19.5 million square feet of office space OGS manages.

" Start with pay cuts starting with the Governor down to the persons who make 100,000 a year! "

" Overpaid Department Heads? Get a clue. You can't get anyone to fill the positions now because they don't pay what the private sector does. 3 hour coffee breaks? Maybe at your job. When you have you been at ANY government agency, city, county, state, federal where they're all standing around on a 3-hour coffee break? They've cut so many positions the last 10 years NO ONE wants the job. Walk into DMV and see just how overstaffed they are. Haha. Get a life. "

" Consolidate services... especially overpaid department heads... Eliminate the 3 hour coffee breaks and quit paying "state rate" wages to contractors... that would open up more competitive bidding for non-union companies to lower project costs... "
