Auburn has been a fixture in the Section III football playoffs in recent years.
But the 2006 Class AA state champions managed just one regular-season win and will miss out on the postseason.

The season isn't over though.

The Maroons will host Fayetteville-Manlius at 7 p.m. Friday in a Section III crossover game.

Like Auburn (1-6), the Hornets (2-5) had an uncharacteristically sub-par season, despite a 47-37 win over West Genesee two weeks ago.

Skaneateles and Jordan-Elbridge also were awarded home crossover games.

The Lakers host General Brown (6-1) at 7 p.m. Friday. General Brown was the victim of a three-way tiebreaker. The Class C powerhouse lost one game - a one-point overtime loss to Lowville - and beat state-ranked Thousand Islands last week.

Skaneateles (1-6) has lost three straight games.

Jordan-Elbridge (1-6) hosts A-P-W (0-6) at 7 p.m. Friday. The Eagles are coming off a 12-6 loss to Port Byron (2-5), who travels to Clinton for a crossover game on Saturday.

In the Section IV playoffs, Moravia (4-3) travels to play Groton in a quarterfinal game Friday night. The Blue Devils finished second in Class C, Division X and Groton (6-1) took first in Division IX.
