SENECA FALLS -- A convicted sex offender and his siblings are accused of beating up a neighbor in an upstate New York apartment complex for posting fliers warning about his criminal past.

Police say William Meacham, his two brothers, two sisters and a friend attacked Adrian Porter in the village of Seneca Falls last month, leaving him bleeding and unconscious in the complex's parking lot with brain trauma, a broken nose and facial fractures.

The Meacham family contends that Porter came at them with a machete.

The 30-year-old Meacham spent nearly four years in prison for raping a 15-year-old girl.

If convicted of first-degree gang assault, the six could be sentenced to five to 15 years in prison.

A court clerk says the defendants haven't yet been assigned lawyers.
