ROCHESTER -- Lawyers for the career criminal who fatally shot one New York state trooper and wounded two others will be in an upstate court to appeal his convictions.
Ralph "Bucky" Phillips is serving a life sentence without possibility of parole for killing Joseph Longobardo and injuring two other troopers in 2006.
His attorneys are scheduled to appear in a state court in Rochester Monday morning to appeal his convictions. The 46-year-old Phillips claims he entered his guilty pleas only because he got bad advice from a court-appointed lawyer.
Phillips shot the troopers during the five months he was on the lam after escaping from a Buffalo-area ail.
He's serving his sentence at Clinton Correctional Facility, near the Canadian border in northern New York.
