Rick Emanuel, The Citizen's publisher for the past decade, has taken the publisher's position at The Post-Star newspaper in Glens Falls.
The parent company of both papers, Lee Enterprises, announced the move Monday morning. Michael Rifanburg, The Citizen's advertising director, will act as interim publisher for The Citizen.
Emanuel has worked in the newspaper industry since 1988, starting as a sales representative for The Leader in Corning. He came to The Citizen in 1998 to be publisher.
Emanuel has overseen numerous changes at The Citizen during his tenure, including the conversion this past summer from an afternoon to a morning format. The company has also launched a weekly newspaper in Skaneateles, and developed numerous niche products. His tenure has also brought substantial growth to the company's multimedia offerings.
Emanuel has also been active in community service in Cayuga County. He has served on numerous nonprofit boards, including the United Way of Cayuga County, Auburn Memorial Hospital, Cayuga Community College Foundation and Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce.
"Our family will miss the Auburn community and the great friends we have made but look forward to the opportunity to become a part of the Glens Falls community," Emanuel said in a press release.
