Auburn man charged with rape
An Auburn man who authorities said is in the country illegally was arrested by the Auburn Police Department Sunday morning after he was accused of raping a 27-year-old woman in her sleep, police said.
Officers accused Arturo Juan Bautista, 31, of 46 Maple St., Auburn, who they believe is a migrant worker, of raping the victim during a social gathering in her Osborne Street home. When the victim woke up, she screamed for help and attempted to fight Bautista off as he allegedly continued to attack her, police said.
Officers said Bautista was found heading north on Osborne Street after he was allegedly confronted by several other residents. Officers believed Bautista was a guest at the house and had been drinking alcohol during the gathering.
