An Auburn teenager was critically injured in a farm accident in the town of Skaneateles early Wednesday afternoon.
Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputies said at approximately 2:45 p.m., John Rice, 16, of Auburn, lost control of a tractor he was operating at the Cargile Farm, 3905 Gully Road.
The tractor began rolling backwards as Rice was loading stone and driving it up an incline. He couldn't control the tractor, which overturned and crashed down a hill.
Rice was ejected from the tractor, run over and suffered several injuries. Rescue and EMS personnel arrived to the scene and a New York State Police helicopter airlifted Rice to University Hospital, in Syracuse, where he remains in critical condition in intensive care.
Sheriff's deputies are investigating the accident to determine the exact cause.
