No place to park on East Genesee since construction

Tuesday, October 14, 2008 11:55 PM EDT

Where can we park? I live on East Genesee Street and there is nowhere for us tax-paying citizens to park.
Since they have finished the street, they have added lines that are confusing at best. What do the broken lines mean? If they mean “no parking,” then, with the alternate side parking, there is absolutely nowhere for us to park.

That is unfair and unacceptable. There is no reason for those lines to be there. They went all these years without them with no problem, why now? And they look ugly to boot.

It seems as taxpayers, we should have a say on where we should be able to park near our home.

Unhappy taxpayer,

Mary Fredette

" cheeko back in 1840, when my house was built, there werent cars therefore the term 'driveway' was not invented yet...too funny. Auburn is known for all of its old grand houses and many still have carrage barns which we have and were able to get a driveway from that horse path... "

" As I always stated---The planning board is asleep when they approved the building permits WITHOUT DRIVEWAYS. ALL HOMES BEING BUILT SHOULD HAVE PROVIDED PARKING SPACE WITHIN THE GUIDELINES THAT THEY FOLLOW FOR THAT TYPE OF BUILDING. ALL BUSINESS BUILDING'S SHOULD FOLLOW PARKING GUIDELINES ALSO. "

" This letter makes no sense...true the broken lines are to guide u into a new lane and thus no parking is allowed in them. However, there arent THAT many of them and the ones there are, are not as numerous as you imply. There is TONS of parking on E Genny even with alt parking in place. R u complaining u may have to walk more than two feet? Or if u are aged or HC, get a permit! And E Genny looks FANtastic - one last road to do North street then Auburn will look grand with all the old houses we have here.

Brew fyi because of old house stock alot of houses dont have driveways but as I said there is tons of parking cuz its not a 4 lane street anymore. Its a two lane with two lanes one each side for parking, bikes etc. VERY nice! "

" If the city uses state or federal funds to fix the roads, they must build them to the specifications that are required. So deal with it, and the city is not responsible for providing parking for you. Park on a side street or somewhere other than directly in front of your house or in your driveway. "
