Traffic was backed up for about six miles on the state Thruway east of Weedsport Tuesday afternoon, and the Thruway Authority said similar delays will continue through Saturday.
The Thruway Authority said that a pavement project between Interchange 39 (State Fair/Route 690) and Interchange 40 at Weedsport that began Tuesday could cause moderate to severe delays for westbound motorists through Saturday morning.
The westbound driving lane from milepost 300.5 to 303.5 will be closed through 11 a.m. Wednesday.
The westbound driving lane from milepost 302.5 to 303.5 will be closed from 6 p.m. Wednesday to noon Thursday, Oct. 16.
The westbound driving lane from milepost 289.0 to 292.0 will be closed from 6 p.m. Thursday to 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, and from 8 p.m. on Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18.
The Thruway Authority said moderate to severe delays could occur during all of these times.
Dynamic Message Signs will be set up to inform motorists of the work and any delays that may result.
