Stop the waste, salvage train cars for the homeless

Saturday, October 11, 2008 11:41 PM EDT

We read an article with the photo of the old trains being, as they say, recycled. They were being transported to the sea to be placed underwater. Yes these are old trains, cars with no windows, doors, etc.
Well, we have an idea for some better use and it's this. Why not clean them up, repaint them, put windows and doors in them into solid homes. They can and would be used by people who are homeless and have lost their homes to these hurricanes, tornadoes, etc. It's worth a try, don't you think?

It's just like silos, they can be made into round homes for people, it they're usable. Let's stop wasting so many things in our world today. There are so many without a home. Let's start helping.

" There should be housing available for the homeless, poor and unemployed. Old hotels, industrial buildings, warehouses or even railcars should be converted to this purpose. They should not be fancy, just weatherproof and comfortable and indestructable. If the tenants can't afford rent, then they help with maintaining the building and grounds. They should be inspected regularly and those who don't clean or create damage be immediately evicted. If a city wants these facilities built in remote areas than transportation must be provided. Anyone that moves out to get into better living quarters and has left their apartment in good condition and rent up to date would get assistance with the security deposit for the new place. Housing is a more important entitlement than health care. If your housing is supplied you can afford health care and food. The government or hired non profit agencies can run facilities like this and not need tax dollars to run them. The only strike against this idea is the not in my backyard idea or snobbery. "

" CM, because most republicans don't seem to give a crap about the environment, especially if it gets in the way of profits. Yes, your almighty and exalted profits. "

" Like any old ships I dont think dumping them into sea is safe in the long run to our environment.

as it is they are telling us to STOP flushing medicines down the toilet, water tests have proven these are in our water though small amounts.
Why are we dumping and leaving objects of metal and lead based paints into the ocean??? "
