Dennis Holmberg will return to Auburn for his eighth season as Doubledays manager in 2009, adding to his record for longest tenured manager in Auburn history.
Holmberg will be joined by a new pitching coach, Vince Horsman. Hitting coach Charlie Poe and trainer Dan McIntosh will also return to the club.
Holmberg has 325 wins with the Doubledays, an average of more than 46 wins a season.
In 2008, the Doubledays did not make the playoffs for the first time under Holmberg.
“We never take having Dennis return as our manager for granted,#” Doubledays general manager Carl Gutelius said in a press release Friday. “He is a great manager and an important part of the Auburn community. This announcement is terrific news and a great way to head into 2009.”
Horsman is in his first year with the Doubledays, replacing Antonio Caceres who was promoted to Lansing. Horsman spent five years in Major League Baseball with Toronto, Oakland and Minnesota. He served as pitching coach for the Gulf Coast League Blue Jays in 2007.
Charlie Poe will return for his second season as hitting coach. Poe began last year in Syracuse filling in for an injured coach. He joined the Doubledays two games into the season and was with the team for the remainder of 2008.
