Do the right thing, don't forget about 2006 champs

Friday, October 10, 2008 11:44 PM EDT

I recently read the article about the Auburn Beautification Commission in Monday's paper. Being a lifelong resident of Auburn I think it's great to see Hoopes Park being brought back to some of its old glory days.
I am in hopes that when the signage for welcoming residents and visitors into our great city is put into place, the idea to add the 2006 state champion football team to those signs is not forgotten.

It is now nearly two years since this accomplishment that single-handedly brought this great community together and showed people around the state what Auburnians are made of.

Please do not let this get lost in the shuffle like so many other things. The players, coaches and the fans certainly deserve to be recognized and to keep the spirit alive in our great community. Always remember; we may never pass this way again.

" This was not just a victory it was an accomplishment. This is about community pride. This was also something that was promised to these young boys, there coaches and this great community by our governmental officials that were in office in 2006. Lets hold their feet to the fire and make this happen, and if you are with them i hope you are wearing asbestos shoes. I am definetly not fixating on the past but trying to help build a better future. "

" Stick a trophy in the trophy case. They don't need a sign at the entrance to the city. Put your attention to future victories and stop fixating on the past. "
